Coaches and Officials
Below items are non-negotiable for Coaches and
Officials. Coaches and Officials that fail to comply may face disciplinary action.
Each Coaches and Official must:
a)
Display and foster respect for Umpires,
opponents, Coaches, administrators, Officials, parents and spectators;
b)
Never argue with or dispute a decision of an
Official or Umpire, or engage in verbal abuse or swearing at or in the vicinity
of other.
c)
Never engage in any type of violence either on
or off the field;
d)
Cooperate with their Club Officials, Coaches and
team-mates;
e)
Comply with and observe the AFL Vilification and
Discrimination Policy including respecting the rights and dignity of all
participants regardless of gender, ability, sexual orientation, cultural
background or religion;
f) Not engage in conduct that is, unethical,
unbecoming or likely to cause harm to the reputation of the Participant or the
Club;
g)
Not take part in any form of bullying including
via the use of social media;
h) Not make or post inappropriate, offensive or discriminatory comments in public, including via social media, about Players, Clubs, Umpires, Officials, the AFL, or the League. Social media includes, but is not limited to, email, instant messaging, text messages, phone messages, digital images, website postings (including social media such as, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, websites and blogs);
i)
Use appropriately the facilities and equipment
made available for administration, coaching, training, Competition Matches and
events, including facilities provided by the opposing teams;
Parents /
Guardian
a) Remember
that children play sport for their enjoyment not yours.
b) Encourage
children to participate, do not force them.
c) Focus
on the child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing.
d) Encourage
children to always participate according to the rules.
e) Never
ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a match.
f) Remember
that children learn best by example. Applaud good plays by all teams.
g) Support
all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.
h) Respect
official’s decisions and teach children to do likewise.
i) Show
appreciation of volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them
your child could not participate.
j) The
consumption of alcohol and smoking is inappropriate at all junior football
games.
Spectators
a) Children play organised sports for fun. They are not playing for the entertainment of spectators only, nor are they miniature professionals.
b) Applaud good performances and efforts by your team and their opponents. Congratulate both teams upon their performance regardless of the result.
c) Respect official decisions. If there is a disagreement, follow the appropriate procedure in order to question the decision and teach children to do likewise.
d) Never ridicule or scold a child for making a mistake during a match. Positive comments are motivational.
e) Condemn the use of violence in any form, be it by spectators, coaches, officials or Players.
f) Show respect for your team’s opponents. Without them there would be no match.
g) Encourage players to play according to the rules and to obey official decisions.
h) Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by not using foul or abusive language, or harassing Players, coaches or officials.
