Purpose
To set out the rules for allocating players to sides to ensure players are appropriately matched into teams according to age and ability in a fair and transparent manner.
Responsibility
Coaching Coordinator, Club President, Coaches
Philosophy
1. Players shall at first be placed in the lowest age group that they are eligible to play in based on the BJFL Date of Birth Requirements. For example, a player who is eligible for both Under 10 and Under 12 based on their date of birth will be placed in an Under 10 age division team.
2. The Coaching Coordinator shall head a player selection subcommittee for the assessment of players. The player selection subcommittee shall consist of the coaching coordinator, club president and one other EJFC committee member.
3. Parent requests will be considered however these will have the lowest weighting in the decision process.
Under 9 & 10
1. Players will be allocated to teams based on their age on a first registered basis.
2. In the event that the Under 10 team is short of players to fill the minimum registration requirements of the BJFL, players with suitable ability in the Under 9 division may be elevated to the Under 10 division if the Under 9 division has more registered players than is permitted by the BJFL.
3. In certain circumstances, some players will be eligible for both Under 10’s and Under 12’s based on their date of birth. These players will be initially placed in Under 10’s. These players will only be considered for Under 12’s if there are insufficient player numbers in Under 12’s and there are too many players in the Under 10’s and the player selection committee deems the players ability to be satisfactory for Under 12’s.
Under 12 Girls
1. Players will be allocated to teams based on their age on a first registered basis.
2. Any disputes will be referred to the Coaching Coordinator or club president.
U12 Boys
1. Under 12 teams will be selected on ability, skill, attitude, and a willingness to develop.
2. All players will train together during preseason to enable the coaches and Coaching Coordinator, President to assess their ability. The players will then be split into teams reflective of these results.
• In the under 12 age group, a senior team will be selected first, based on the above criteria. All players not selected in the Senior Team will be allocated to a team, using above criteria, with the intent to have the subsequent teams as evenly appointed as possible.
3. If the coaches/parents feel that players are not suited to the team that they have been placed in, a request shall be made to the Coaching Coordinator to assess the players. The selection subcommittee (in consultation with the coaches) will then assess the player during grading games.
* The selection criteria is based on the recommendation guidelines provided by AFL CV
U14 Boy's, U16 Boy's & U15 Girls
1. Teams shall be selected on ability, skill, attitude, and a willingness to develop. The players will then be split into corresponding teams.
2. All players will train together throughout the season enable the coaches and Coaching Coordinator, President to assess and support the development of their ability.
3. The Coaches Coaching Coordinator and President will agree on the makeup of the teams however in the event of a disagreement between the coaches, the selection Coaching Coordinator, President will assess the players and make the final decision.
5. During Grading and throughout the season the makeup of the teams will be made on a week-to-week basis this will be determined by ability, attitude, training.
Players may be moved fluidly between the teams as required, with any team change announcements made by Tuesday night. It is anticipated that by the end of grading movement between the teams would be minimal, but could still occur based on the above criteria.
**Every effort is made to ensure that players are allocated to a team that is suitable to ensure the players welfare, however in the event of having too many registered players teams will be determined by the above policies.
